recently inked a $100 million extension. And the Mariners arent done. They are still

After three relief appearances to start his 2014 season, Toronto Bluie Jays pitcher J.A. Happ is coming off his first start of the year, a win at Philadelphia Monday. The former Phillie allowed three hits in five scoreless frames of a 3-0 triumph. Happ has faced the Angels once in his career when he allowed six hits and four runs -- three earned -- over 4 1/3 innings of Torontos 4-3 home loss on Sept. 12, 2013. Happs counterpart, Tyler Skaggs, has 19 starts under his belt in his major league career and hes yet to lose on the road. Skaggs tries to keep that mark unblemished when the Los Angeles Angels continue their four-games series with the Blue Jays Saturday afternoon. The 22-year-old left-hander is 2-0 in five career road starts, compared to a 3-7 ledger in 14 home outings. In his most recent start, Sunday at home against Texas, Skaggs was shelled to the tune of eight hits and six runs over 2 2/3 innings of a 14-3 defeat. Both of Skaggs road wins have come this season and hes given up just two earned runs in 15 innings. The Angels won each of Skaggs first six starts this season before falling to Texas. Hes never faced the Blue Jays. Last night, Erick Aybar hit two doubles, a triple and scored twice to help the Angels squeak out a 4-3 win. Mike Trout smacked a solo homer and Howie Kendrick added two hits and an RBI for the Angels, who have won eight of their last nine against Toronto. Efren Navarro, who was called up prior to the game, had two doubles and a run scored. Los Angeles starter Garrett Richards worked seven frames, fanning six and allowing two runs on five hits. Joe Smith (2-0) allowed one run in one inning to receive the win and Ernesto Frieri picked up his fourth save, setting down the side in order in the ninth. "Ive been working on my breaking ball (and) my fastball command," said Frieri. "I think I did a pretty good job today with my fastball and slider. I need to keep doing that for the rest of the season to be successful." Jose Reyes went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and two runs scored and Melky Cabrera had two hits and scored a run for the Blue Jays, who saw starter Dustin McGowan allow two runs on seven hits and two walks through five innings. "We got through it. I didnt have any slider at all," said McGowan. "Luckily the changeup got me through and its just one of those games you go out there and give it everything you got." Brett Cecil (0-3) suffered the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in his one inning on the hill. The Angels went 6-1 last season versus the Blue Jays, sweeping a three-game set in Toronto. Portuguese sides Benfica and Porto also advanced to the last eight while Basel overcame an early red card to win 2-1 at Salzburg and progress from a last-16 second leg that was briefly suspended because of crowd trouble. Lyon, Valencia and AZ Alkmaar will also be in Fridays draw in Nyon, Switzerland, where the team to avoid will be Juventus -- even though the Italian champions made heavy work of their all-Italian last-16 match against Fiorentina. http://www.cheapbillsjerseysonline.com/?...sey-online. -- So much for concern that running back Marshawn Lynch would be absent from the Seattle Seahawks minicamp. LeSean McCoy Jersey . Yet now its time for the most important pick of them all; the Grey Cup. The thought of going 5-0 with the correct choice is quite intoxicating, I dont think I have ever gone perfect in my CFL futuristic playoff speculations and would take great pride in guessing - I mean analyzing - correctly. Doug Flutie Jersey . -- Andy Granatelli, the former CEO of STP motor oil company who made a mark on motorsports as a car owner, innovator and entrepreneur, has died.Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - You want to know how important the Seattle Mariners signing of Nelson Cruz was? They dont have to do another thing this offseason and they will be my pick to win the American League West. Now with that said, I dont think they are done just yet. Seattle went into this offseason intent on upgrading its lineup - as it did last winter when it signed Robinson Cano. Yes they probably overpaid Cano, but they had to land one superstar to get another. Felix Hernandez or not, Seattle just wasnt a popular landing spot for free agents. It seemed to be the same story every offseason for the Mariners. They were in on every big bat available, yet theyd land nobody. Or anyone who would make a difference. Thats why the Cano signing last winter was so important. The ground work was being laid for something much bigger. And they knew more had to be done. Cano may have watched his power numbers decline in spacious Safeco Field, but he remained one of the best left-handed hitters in the game, despite having little or no protection in a lineup that ranked second to last in the AL last season with a .244 average. Seattle, and Cano for that matter, desperately needed some help from the right-side of the plate, as the Mariners .604 OPS by right-handed hitters in 2014 was the lowest for any team since the 1988 Pittsburgh Pirates. The right-handed hitting Cruz, meanwhile, had a .977 OPS against left-handed pitchers. As good as Cano was a year ago, hell be even bettter with Cruz, the only player in the league last season to hit 40 home runs.dddddddddddd. Even at 34 years of age, Cruz will drastically upgrade a designated hitter spot for the Mariners that last season produced an awful .190/.266/.301 line with 15 home runs and 50 RBI. Of course Safeco Field will likely sap some of Cruz power, but the majority of his power numbers last season came on the road rather than the hitter friendly confines of Camden Yards. Cruz hit .289 with 25 homers and 68 RBI away from home last year opposed to the 15 HRs and 40 RBI in Baltimore. Regardless, hes a nice piece to slot in between Cano and third baseman Kyle Seager, who recently inked a $100 million extension. And the Mariners arent done. They are still in on outfielders Matt Kemp, Justin Upton and Yoenis Cespedes. Of the three the Mariners would probably prefer Kemp since he is signed through 2019, whereas Cespedes and Upton can become a free agents after this season. Its no secret that the Los Angels Dodgers - like many other teams - covet Mariners right-handed pitching prospect Taijuan Walker, but Seattle doesnt seem inclined to include him in a deal for Kemp or anyone else for that matter. This much is certain. With King Felix, Hisashi Iwakuma, James Paxton and yes, even Walker, along with what was the best bullpen in the AL a year ago, the Mariners have enough pitching to win. Their lineup has to catch up. Signing Cruz was a nice next step. Now we wait for whats coming next.
